Always give him his due: When Saint Expedite grants your request, always “Pay Him” for his help, he was a soldier and expects payment for his services. Back in the early centuries the army was composed almost entirely of professional soldiers, that was an occupation, a very proud occupation. Soldiers were paid, and their families traveled behind the soldiers and after duty they would go and be with their family. Of course the payment is only symbolic, but don’t underestimate the importance of this step. You pay him only for successful completion of your request or petition. You can give flowers or flowers and a slice of pound cake, or any other reward you had promised. If you offered flowers, than please make sure they are real flowers, not the imitation kind. If you want real help you can use real flowers. They can be from your garden or you can usually pick some up at most supermarkets, you can pick up the pound cake there too, Sarah Lee makes a good pound cake that is available almost everywhere. That is only a suggestion. You can make your own “deal” with him when you ask for his help. Be forewarned; If you made a promise to St Expedite, or what some people might call it a “deal”, make sure that you keep up your end of the bargain if your wish is granted. I have heard that if you break the deal, bad things will happen. I have heard that “he will take back all that he has done and more”. Granted, you will never know for sure that it was his help that actually made a difference in getting what you asked for because it always looks like things just happened in your favor. Well here is a line that sums up my feeling on the subject: When you do things right it seems like you didn’t do anything at all. So assume that things happened with some of his help. Always give him his due: Leave St. Expedite’s reward up for a suitable length of time. Remove the flowers when they start wilting, they should be put in a compost heap. Any stale food Items should be put out for the birds and other animals and the water should be poured on to the earth to help other plant life. Do not throw the items into the trash, which would be disrespectful. Also you must spread his name if he has helped you. A public thank you is necessary to complete the transaction, that is a sign of respect and gratitude. Run a classified ad in your local paper. Put a piece of paper with your thanks on a bulletin board. Send us an email with your thanks, and we will put it on our Tribute Page. If you have asked for St. Expedite’s help at some time before and you did not reward him for his efforts than you must appease him immediately. Make a donation in his name. Make a public apology. Ask for forgiveness. That is a small price to pay for being downright rude to a very generous and powerful Saint.
